Extending to approximately 12 Acres, Camlough Quarry is located on the eastern side of Cam Lough and the western side of Camlough Mountain, approximately 2.5km south of Camlough Village. The site has been designated as an Area of Special Scientific Interest (ASSI) since 1990 as a result of the Slieve Gullion volcanic complex, of which Camlough Quarry is a part, presenting the finest example of a Palaeogene igneous centre in Ireland and is among the best topographic expressions of a ring-dyke system in the Ireland or the UK. The rocks found here are of international geological importance, having played an important role in a number of theories related to the development of and interaction between igneous rocks.

The mountainous lands with views extending across Camlough Lake and beyond, include two block structures that may have some future use subject to planning.



Camlough is a small village five kilometres west of Newry in County Armagh, Northern Ireland. Newry occupies a strategic location between Belfast and Dublin, c. 37 miles south west of Belfast. The City has the benefit of excellent communication links due to its location on the main A1 Dual Carriageway which serves as the key link between Dublin and Belfast.
